You land in Lagos, open your ride app, and wonder whether your driver can collect you at arrivals. Conflicting reports about airport ride-hailing rules have made a routine pickup harder to plan.

On August 20, 2026, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said ride-hailing services were not under a blanket ban. Commercial pickups inside airport areas are still subject to controls. That means you need to check the current arrangement for your terminal on travel day, rather than rely on an old pickup instruction.

FAAN’s airport mobility clarification draws a line between using a ride-hailing app and operating a commercial pickup inside an airport. You may be able to request a ride, but the driver still needs permission to collect you at the approved location.

The distinction matters because the earlier news sounded more final. A July 30 directive was reported to have ordered Uber and Bolt to stop commercial operations at FAAN-managed airports pending licence agreements. Reporting on the airport suspension helps explain the mixed messages, but that earlier directive shouldn’t be read as FAAN’s final position on every ride-hailing service.

FAAN is introducing the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System, or ACHRAMS, to bring more order to airport car-hire operations. Its stated purpose is to manage ranks and dispatch, so airport staff can better oversee commercial vehicles collecting passengers.

For you, that may affect where an approved vehicle waits and how a ride is assigned. Driver and vehicle checks, queues, and trip accountability are part of the wider concern. FAAN has not published a complete passenger-facing procedure for every terminal, so don’t assume ACHRAMS works like an app. It is an airport operations system, not a replacement for Uber or Bolt.

A live ride option on your phone doesn’t give a driver access to any curb outside arrivals. Pickups may need an approved arrangement, and the permitted location can vary by terminal or provider. Drop-off instructions may also differ from pickup instructions.

If an old screenshot points to a curb but your provider now directs you elsewhere, check before you leave the building. Ask the provider to confirm the current meeting point. Don’t cross traffic or follow a driver to an unverified location because the app accepted your request.

Start with your flight booking. Murtala Muhammed Airport has separate facilities, including MMA1 and MMA2, and “Lagos airport” isn’t enough information for a driver. International arrivals use a different terminal area again.

Check the terminal named by your airline, then ask FAAN, your airline, or your transport provider for the current pickup procedure there. Confirm it again on travel day. A provider’s instructions for one terminal shouldn’t be treated as the rule for another.

Send whoever is meeting you the exact terminal name, airline, flight number, and arrival time. If you book ahead, ask where the driver is authorized to wait and how you’ll reach that spot with your luggage. Ask what happens if your flight is late, too.

A staffed, airport-authorized dispatch desk may offer a vehicle without requiring you to download an app. Confirm that the desk is authorized and that its service covers your terminal before you commit. Arrangements can change. In late August, Arise TV reported that Bolt was cleared to resume airport operations after reaching an arrangement with FAAN. That report doesn’t settle access for every provider or pickup point.

Use the official app, a provider’s verified booking channel, or an authorized airport desk. Before you enter, match the driver’s name and the vehicle’s model, color, and number plate to your booking. Give the driver your destination and confirm the route or entrance you need.

Settle the full fare before the car moves. Ask whether parking, tolls, waiting time, or extra luggage change the price. Keep your booking reference and payment record until the trip ends. Decline unsolicited rides, and don’t pay anyone who claims to collect money for FAAN unless you can verify the charge through an official channel.

There is no single fare you can safely take from an old airport post and apply to your journey today. The available FAAN notice does not publish a passenger access or parking fee schedule for these pickups.

Your price will depend on the provider, destination, timing, and the terms of your booking. Check a live app quote or get the full amount from your transfer provider before paying. If a charge isn’t clear, ask who collects it and request a receipt.

During the airport access dispute, BusinessDay reported cab fares reaching โ‚ฆ70,000 in Lagos and Abuja airport coverage. Other media reports cited a possible โ‚ฆ40,000 penalty for drivers making unauthorized pickups. Those figures describe reported conditions and enforcement concerns. They are not a published passenger fare schedule or a confirmed FAAN fee table in the available notice.

Don’t build your budget around either number. Compare current quotes where you can, and ask whether the amount includes all charges for your trip. If a driver says an extra airport fee is compulsory, verify it with the provider or an airport information desk before you hand over money.

Save your provider’s phone number, booking reference, and agreed meeting instructions where you can find them without mobile data. Leave room in your schedule for Lagos traffic, especially if someone must drive across town to meet your flight.

If your driver can’t reach the approved area, contact the provider instead of accepting an offer from a stranger. Ask at a staffed terminal information point if you need help finding the current pickup area. Recheck FAAN or provider guidance on travel day, particularly when your app shows instructions that differ from an older report.

FAAN says ride-hailing is not under a blanket ban, but permission to collect you and the right pickup location still matter. An available app ride alone doesn’t answer either question.

Confirm your terminal, check the current pickup arrangement, and verify the driver and fare before boarding. Keep a backup contact handy. That short routine will help you handle a change without treating yesterday’s rules or prices as today’s.
